Description Learning in the 21st Century de Ben Curran:

The world has transformed on an epic scale, but education has barely budged. How can you incorporate all the creativity technology has to offer into your learning experiences, even if your technological abilities are limited? How can online tools help students, especially gifted and twice-exceptional students, connect with others from around the block or around the world to collaborate on projects? Ben Curran and Neil Wetherbee of Engaging Educators give you step-by-step instructions to get you started using technology in your learning experiences. Discover new online tools geared toward collaborating and creating. Try out projects specifically designed with these tools in mind. Create a positive and interesting online portfolio to share with college recruiters and potential employers. Regardless of educational choice, "Learning in the 21st Century: How to Connect, Collaborate, and Create" will fill you with ideas and inspiration that will revolutionize how you approach learning. **As of July 1, 2013, Google has discontinued Google Reader. In the interest of keeping our readers up-to-date with the best options, Ben and Neil recommend Bloglines as a replacement service. Please go to http: //giftedhomeschoolers.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Google-Reader-addendum-6-21-2013.pdf to download instructions on how to transfer your Google Reader subscriptions to Bloglines.** Ben Curran was born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan. He earned his teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University and began his teaching career in 2000. Since then, he has taught, at various times, grades four through eight. He is currently employed as an instructional coach at a charter school in Detroit, Michigan. In addition, he teaches (along with his co-author) educational technology workshops for his district. In 2011, Ben and Neil founded Engaging Educators, a company dedicated to helping educators and families transform their learning environments in meaningful and exciting ways. Ben blogs actively for Engaging Educators at engagingeducators.com/blog, as well as for his school at upaet.blogspot.com and about poetry at thesmallnouns.blogspot.com. Ben lives outside Detroit with his wife, daughter, and two sons. Neil Wetherbee grew up in Northport, Michigan, a small town outside of Traverse City. The public school district he attended was a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools. His relationship with the educational process was significantly shaped by the high expectations, personalization, and performance-based assessments found in these schools. He earned his teaching degree from the University of Michigan and has been teaching in a Detroit charter school since 2005. More and more of Neil's teaching included the use of technology, so he sought formal training in the field of educational technology. He earned an Educational Technology Certificate and an M.A. in educational technology from Michigan State University. He regularly implements Web 2.0 technologies with an emphasis on course management systems to increase student engagement and achievement. To continue his growth in the field of educational technology, Neil is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education. Look for his upcoming book from Eye on Education (www.eyeoneducation.com), which he also co-authored with Ben. Neil currently lives in Rochester, Michigan, with his wife and three young daughters.
